Hello from Cuernavaca and Oaxaca!
As the calendar pages turn and the air gets crisp (well, relatively crisp for central Mexico!), we all know what’s coming: the biggest, most heartfelt celebration of the year—the Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe on December 12th.
For those of you learning Spanish with us at Ideal Spanish Mexico, you’ll quickly realize that the image of La Guadalupana isn’t just a religious symbol; she is truly woven into the cultural fabric of the entire country. You see her everywhere: in grand cathedrals, small chapels, and, most powerfully, right on the streets where ordinary people live and work.
This devotion is deep, personal, and utterly beautiful to witness.
While the massive pilgrimages and official celebrations haven’t quite peaked yet, you can feel the energy building. But you don’t need to wait for December 12th to see this faith in action. It’s truly a year-round phenomenon.
To show you what we mean, we wanted to share two recent photos our team snapped during casual walks, miles apart. These are not staged events—they are just everyday streets and small, powerful altars that show the profound respect and love Mexicans have for the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Photo Stop 1: Puebla, a City of History
In the historic city of Puebla, the devotion is immediate and visible. This photo, taken on a random side street, shows a vibrant image painted directly into a wall. It’s colorful, meticulously cared for, and situated right where hundreds of people walk every day.

It’s a perfect example of how faith integrates seamlessly into daily, urban life. Every corner tells a story here.
Photo Stop 2: Malinalco, the Magic Town
Contrast that with this picture from Malinalco, a charming Pueblo Mágico southwest of Mexico City. Here, the display might be smaller, tucked away, but the sentiment is just as intense.

Whether you are in a bustling, large city like Puebla or a smaller, historically rich town like Malinalco, the dedication is undeniable. The faith in La Guadalupana is a thread that runs deep through the heart of every state, linking communities together in a shared cultural experience.
We’ll have more updates as the December 12th festivities kick off. If you’re planning your trip, remember that coming to Mexico in early December gives you a front-row seat to this incredible display of devotion and culture—and of course, the perfect opportunity to practice your Spanish skills!
¡Hasta luego! The Team at Ideal Spanish Mexico
