Our legacy began in 1961 with our director, Hermilo Brito, at the renowned CIDOC of Ivan Illich, where he eventually became “Director General”. Over the years, we've honed our own academic program with a communicative learning approach, featuring workbooks developed by our teachers. We offer comprehensive total immersion programs in the language and local culture for both independent students and groups in Cuernavaca and Oaxaca. IDEAL Spanish Mexico & Cuernavaca Language School: A United Legacy

For over five years, IDEAL Spanish Mexico has proudly collaborated with Cuernavaca Language School (CLS), uniting two institutions with deep roots in Cuernavaca's pioneering Spanish language education. Both schools trace their heritage back over 60 years to CIDOC, the renowned intellectual center and first formal Spanish school in Cuernavaca, founded by philosopher Ivan Illich. Our directors both honed their skills at CIDOC, and CLS directly inherited the CIDOC name from Ivan Illich himself. This powerful alliance between IDEAL and CLS is the perfect integration of that rich legacy, ensuring unparalleled Spanish and cultural immersion for our students.
