💀🌺 Miquixtli 2025 Kicks Off: Music (With Lila Downs), Marigolds, and Magic in Cuernavaca! 🎶
Hola amigos! The air in Cuernavaca is getting cooler, the scent of cempasúchil (marigolds) is filling the streets, and that can only mean one thing: Día de Muertos season is officially here!
This week, the team from Ideal Spanish Mexico took a little field trip to the very heart of Cuernavaca—the historic center—to witness the grand opening of the Miquixtli 2025 Festival! And let us tell you, the city has truly transformed.
Miquixtli is the state of Morelos’ beautiful tribute to the Day of the Dead traditions, and it’s absolutely packed with activities. Think vibrant Catrina and Calavera parades, stunning art exhibits, and so many cultural performances. If you’re studying Spanish with us, this is the perfect time to soak up some authentic Mexican culture (and practice your vocabulary!).
🌟 A Night with a Legend: Lila Downs
We were lucky enough to catch one of the festival’s biggest highlights right in the Plaza de Armas: a free concert by the incredibly talented and iconic singer, Lila Downs!
The plaza was absolutely packed—a sea of people gathered under the stars to listen to her powerful, soulful voice. It was one of those truly magical Cuernavaca nights that makes you fall even more in love with Mexico. What a way to start the celebrations!
🕯️ Ready for Round Two: The “Cereada” of Ocotepec
The Miquixtli fun is just getting started, and so are our own cultural adventures!
Today, we’re swapping the city center for a truly authentic experience in the nearby indigenous town of Ocotepec. We’re headed there for “La Cereada,” a beautiful, traditional ceremony where families and visitors carry candles and flowers to the cemetery to welcome the spirits of their loved ones.
It’s an incredible, deeply moving, and unforgettable part of the Día de Muertos tradition, and we can’t wait to share our stories and photos with you!
What’s your favorite Día de Muertos tradition? Let us know in the comments!
